INTERVIEW: David Lammers |
In tonight's competition we will see the feature 'Langer licht' by David Lammers. Since the author honored us with his presence at the festival, we took the advantage to talk about his feature debut film dealing with worm-cold relationship between a father and son in the north suburbs of Amsterdam. David is Dutch who abandoned his East European studies for love of film and became a director.
'The film was made in modest conditions. When we shot it we took care of the budget so that all the people working on it would come to the set on bikes', says David.
You are an awarded author of shorts. Did it help you to make the first feature easier?
Yes and no. I applied to the competition of the Public TV of the Netherlands and the Film Institute. I did my best to keep the story within the low budget limits. They liked it and the film was made. I didn't need any extra money.
Where did the inspiration come from?
In north Amsterdam there is a neighborhood which I like very much. That part of the city resembles very much a village with family houses and myriad of small channels. I spent a lot of time there hanging out with people and talking. Although I was thinking about making a documentary, I still ended up with a feature. |
