In this year's main programme, ZFF will showcase ‘Control', a beautiful black and white feature film profile of Ian Curtis (Sam Riley), the charismatic singer of Joy Division whose personal, professional, and romantic troubles led him to commit suicide at the age of 23. Control is a feature-film debut of an acclaimed rock photographer, music video director Anton Corbijn. The movie premiered at Cannes '07, where it was awarded with Golden Camera - Special Mention award.

After Cannes, it has been showcased on several festivals, amongst others, Edinburgh International Film Festival, where it won the Best New British Film award as well as Best Performance award (Sam Riley) and Sarajevo Film Festival.

The script, based on the biography of Ian's widow Deborah Curtis (‘Touching From a Distance') and written by Matt Greenhalgh, covers a period from singer/songwriter's schooldays to his end in 1980.
