Jellyfish on 5th ZFF |
'Jellyfish' ('Medusot') is a film directing debut by Shira Geffren, children's author, playwright, and one of Israel's most accomplished theatre director, and her husband, acclaimed literary and short film author Etgar Keret, whose short story 'Kneller's Happy Campers' was used by Croatian director Goran Dukić as a screenplay basis for 'Wristcutters: A Love Story'. Several life stories are intersecting in modern day Tel Aviv, and the protagonists - young caterer Batya, middle-aged Filipino caregiver for the elderly Joy, newly wedded couple Michael and Keren and an actress Galia are pushed here and there by chance; and like jellyfish, they mindlessly sting. The world of 'Jellyfish' is a kaleidoscope of piquant mischance and a magically coloured reality where destinies change because of the broken ankle, accidental encounters break solid relationships and young girls appear out of the ocean blue. (Full synopsis is available on our web page.) Film won a Golden Camera award for best debut, Young Critics prize awarded by teen jury and SACD award at 60th Cannes. Trailer is available here, and be sure not to miss a photo gallery, that way you can check why the critics say that French cinematographer Antoine Haberle managed to incorporate water into the film. |
